FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
If your battery doesn’t appear to be charging or your equipment isn’t turning on, it may simply need more charging time.
We recommend charging lithium batteries for 24 hours before first use. While all batteries are fully charged prior to dispatch, they can occasionally enter a deep sleep state during storage or transit. If this happens, a full 24-hour charge is required to restore normal operation.
If the battery has become completely discharged, the charger will begin charging at a very low rate to protect the battery. During this initial recovery phase, the charger indicator light may not illuminate immediately, making it appear as though the battery is not charging. This is normal behaviour.
If, after charging for 24 hours, the battery still does not operate correctly, please contact our customer support team for further assistance.
The recommended lifespan of a patient sling depends on how frequently it is used and how well it is maintained.
As a general industry guideline, 3 years is the recommended service life. However, slings that are used infrequently and cared for correctly may remain suitable for up to 5 years.
A sling may continue to be used provided that:
- It remains structurally sound and safe to use.
- The product label (including the serial number and date of manufacture) is clearly legible.
- There are no signs of damage, excessive wear, or stitching defects.
Please note that factors such as washing frequency, laundering methods, and detergent pH levels can affect the integrity of the fabric and stitching, making it difficult to determine an exact lifespan.
For a cautious approach, we recommend replacing slings after 3 years. As a general guide, slings may be suitable for use for up to 5 years under low to moderate usage, provided they pass regular inspections.
For patient safety, we recommend replacing any sling that is more than 5 years old, regardless of its apparent condition.

Our patient lifters are covered by a 2-year warranty, excluding:
- Batteries
- Castors
- Damage caused by misuse, neglect, or improper operation
The recommended service life of our patient lifters is 6–8 years, while the recommended lifespan of the battery is 2–3 years.
To ensure safe operation and ongoing reliability, we recommend that each lifter is inspected and serviced by a qualified technician every 12 months.
Please note that these lifespan recommendations are intended as a general guide only. The actual service life of a lifter will depend on factors such as frequency of use, maintenance, and overall wear and tear. With proper servicing and replacement of worn components, many of our lifters continue to operate safely for 10 years or more.
If you have any questions about servicing, replacement parts, or the condition of your lifter, please contact our team for further assistance.

How often should a patient lifter be serviced?
We recommend that patient lifters are inspected and serviced every 12 months.
What should be checked during the annual inspection?
During the recommended annual inspection, the following checks should be completed:
- Perform at least one load test using the lifter’s maximum Safe Working Load (SWL).
- Check that no service light is displayed on the control box. (Note: A service light may simply indicate that the service interval is overdue.)
- Inspect all welded joints, bolts, and nuts for signs of wear, damage, or loosening.
How do I reset the service light?
If the service light is displayed, the control box can be reset by following these steps:
- Turn the control box on.
- Press and hold the Up and Down buttons on the handset simultaneously.
- Continue holding until the control box beeps once (after a few seconds).
- The control box and service light will then be reset.
Note: Resetting the service light does not replace the need for a routine inspection or maintenance. Ensure the lifter has been inspected and is safe to use before returning it to service.
Many Allegro slings are available in either Fabric or Mesh.
Fabric Slings
- Ideal for everyday transfers.
- Soft and comfortable for extended use.
Mesh Slings
- Suitable for bathing and showering.
- Allow water to drain and dry more quickly than fabric slings.
General Purpose (GP) Slings and Pivot Slings have a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 320 kg, while Standing Transfer Slings have a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 200 kg.
The Safe Working Load is the maximum weight that the sling has been designed and tested to safely support during patient transfers. The SWL is clearly displayed on the sling’s identification label and must never be exceeded.
